Welcome, internet travellers! Do you wanna know what movies I watch?

It was at the start of 2022, during my final year at uni (studying screenwriting for film and TV), when I realised - I should watch more movies! And I should also keep a record of the movies I watch for the first time.

Inspired by my classmate Ryan, I made an Instagram account for film reviews. It even had a gimmick - I would review every film in exactly 100 words! Like a drabble! Of course, at least one other Instagram account with the same concept already existed at this point, but I had no idea at the time.

I quickly fell behind and my activity on the account lasted less than a year. I just didn't have the energy to compose a review like that for every single film I watched.

But there were things about the whole experience which I enjoyed. Namely, the grid. Turning film posters into squares. And then, more importantly, seeing those squares form larger 3 x 3 squares. That felt satisfying. Soon I started thinking more about these clusters of nine films. Are my viewing habits eclectic enough? Do I watch movies from a variety of genres and a variety of time periods? What if I try to make one of these nine-movie grids themed? Nine animated films? Nine films from 2009? The opportunities are endless, as long as those opportunities are exactly nine movies.

With instagram changing the look of profiles, I made the decision in 2025 not to return to the old account. (Rectanles are for some reason way less satisfying than squares.) Instead, I've tried to recreate the grid here, on Neocities. No reviews this time, this is just for me and tracking the movies I watch.

Are there much simpler solutions out there that I could have used to keep track of this? Definitely. But I just wanted to write another website in HTML from scratch, because I find that sort of thing fun.

You will find the grid with all the films here. By hovering over the image you can display the name of the film and the year when it came out, as well as the date when I watched the film. (I don't have the dates for every film, but I fortunately managed to find it for most of them.)

If you want to browse particular years of my cinematic consumption, check out the pages for 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Here you can find my five favourite films for each year covered. (The five films are not chosen from what I watched that year. They're based on the films released during those years.)

Don't know what to watch? Here's my three recommendation lists - a general list, an animation list, and a Czech list. These aren't necessarily the best films, but they are my favourites to recommend. I just love telling people they should go watch these.
